I’m Lauren Folkerts—your Mayor Pro Tem, a local architect, and a proud Boulderite for 15 years. I didn’t become an architect because I love buildings; I became one because I care about people. For me, design has always been about creating spaces and policies that make communities more welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable.
On City Council, I’ve taken that same approach. I led efforts to raise Boulder’s minimum wage, reform land use to support more affordable housing, and pass the nation’s first embodied carbon building code. My focus isn’t on headlines—it’s on progress. I listen, collaborate, and work hard to turn shared values into real change.
But our work isn’t done. Boulder is at a crossroads. We’re facing a housing crisis, a climate emergency, and growing inequality—all while trying to preserve what makes this place so special: our natural beauty, creativity, and strong sense of community. These challenges are interconnected and complex, but Boulder has never shied away from complexity. We lead.
With vision and courage, we can build a Boulder that remains vibrant and livable for everyone—not just a few. A future where teachers, artists, scientists, and tradespeople can afford to live here. A future where local businesses thrive, neighbors feel safe, and our community is resilient to climate and economic uncertainty.
That’s the Boulder I believe in. And that’s why I’m running for re-election.
